Universitat Rovira i Virgili

Language Policy

|Alt imatge|

Let's do language policy. We engage in language policy. We aim to strengthen Catalan, as the university's own and usual language at the URV, and to increase multilingualism within the university community. For this reason, we promote plans to achieve these goals, collect linguistic indicators to monitor progress, and safeguard linguistic rights.

Objectives

The objectives of the language policy of the URV are to:

  • Strengthen Catalan by promoting it as the official and habitual language of use at the URV.
  • Promote plurilingualism among the university community and strengthen training and certification in other languages.

This language policy is set out in the URV’s Language Policy Plan, which is approved by the Governing Council. It is directed by the governing bodies of the University and its main agents are the Language Policy Committee (representative body) and the Language and Publications Service (technical body).

The linguistic objectives of the URV are supported by the legal framework on language policy and are aligned with the objectives of the Catalan university system through the Language Policy Committee of the Inter-University Council of Catalonia. The Catalan Government promotes these objectives through its INTERLINGUA grants and its funding for linguistic initiatives.

The Xarxa Vives d'Universitats (Living Network of Universities) also carries out joint language policy actions to promote Catalan.

Language cafés

Language cafés are informal spaces where people can particiapte and debate issues around languages and linguistic uses at the URV. They are promoted by the Language Policy Committee.
